Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Her family was in Barcelona and has been dubbed an "atypical pop star" due to her many musical styles. [9] At the age of 13 she fell in an obsession with Spanish folk music. She then studied musicology at Catalonia College of Music. She also performed at weddings and music bars. The project reinvented flamenco and mingled it with pop music and hip-hop music. The songs "Malamente" and "Pienso En Tu Mira" were popular among the Spanish public , and were met with all-encompassing critical acclaim. El Mal Querer was the first to bring Rosalia into the international stage. Rosalia, who explored urban music in her 2019 releases "Con Altura", and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi", had global success. Her third studio album Motomami (2022) gave reggaeton an innovative sound that was moving away from the flamenco-inspired style. Its singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" have caught the attention of the world's media and were the most praised album by Metacritic. Rosalia has had a record of ten top-ten singles in her career, all in her native country. This is the most for an artist hailing from the region. Rosalia has received eleven Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido Awards. In 2019, Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award for "changing the sound of today's mainstream music with her innovative flamenco-influenced pop",[18and she became the first Spanish-singing act in the history of music to be recognized as the the Best New Artist award at the Grammys
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. The family she was born into has no artistic background She is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who manages a small family business specialised in metalworks. Jose Manuel Vila, her father, was born in Cudillero. They divorced in 2019. [23] Her older sister, Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative mind. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts as a child in particular after she was introduced to the discography of Camaron de La Isla. Her musical education began in the Taller de Musics [es]. She completed a 6-year program at the academy. She started attending classes at the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. The singer also performed independently as a singer at weddings, musical bars as well as other events. She received "a barely over 80 euros or as a payment for dinner". Rosalia was capable of meeting many underground Spanish artists at the period, including La Zowi and Yung Beef, Kaydy Case, Hinds Maria Escarmiento and Kaydy Cain.
